Why high-rate lithium-ion batteries?
High-rate batteries generally refer to lithium-ion batteries. A lithium-ion battery is a high-rate rechargeable battery that relies heavily on the movement of lithium ions between the positive and negative electrodes to function. During charging and discharging, Li+ ions repeatedly insert and extract between the two electrodes: during charging, Li+ ions extract from the positive electrode and insert into the negative electrode via the electrolyte, leaving the negative electrode in a lithium-rich state; the reverse occurs during discharging. Batteries that typically use lithium-containing materials as electrodes are representative of modern high-performance batteries.
Fast charging of ordinary rate batteries can easily cause lithium plating on the negative electrode, leading to accelerated performance degradation of lithium-ion batteries. In severe cases, it can cause internal short circuits, resulting in fires and explosions. Most consumer applications only require 1C batteries; if a higher discharge rate and faster charging time are needed, high-rate batteries are the best choice.
Advantages of high-rate lithium-ion batteries
① It features excellent high-current discharge performance, strong explosive force, high discharge platform, and good cycle life;
② It has high energy density and adopts a stacking process. Due to its low internal resistance, it is more conducive to high-rate charging and discharging and high-efficiency output performance;
③ It provides a higher discharge rate, up to 45C, and has better temperature stability during discharge, controlling it within 65 degrees Celsius to prevent overheating and damage;
④ Lithium-ion batteries are ultra-thin, small in size, and extremely light in weight. They can be made into irregularly shaped batteries of various sizes and capacities, with a thickness of up to 0.45mm.
