Abstract: This paper introduces the development status and characteristics of high-speed and ultra-high-speed cutting technologies, and discusses the key equipment for high-speed and ultra-high-speed cutting—high-speed machine tools. Keywords: High-speed and ultra-high-speed cutting; electric spindle; high-speed linear motor. High-speed and ultra-high-speed cutting has achieved tremendous development in only about 20 years since its emergence. Currently, the cutting speed of some metal materials has reached: aluminum alloys 7500 m/min to n; cast iron and steel 1000 to 1200 m/min; high-speed grinding speed has reached 200 m/s. This speed range is 10 times that of conventional cutting speeds. Even the cutting speed of difficult-to-machine materials has reached over 500 m/min (such as titanium-based alloys). The feed rate of high-speed and ultra-high-speed cutting has reached over 100-160 m/min, and the acceleration has reached over 2.5, which is more than 10 times that of conventional feed rates. High-speed and ultra-high-speed cutting significantly improves the efficiency of part processing, reduces processing costs, and improves surface finish and processing accuracy. It is an indispensable technology for machining complex curved surfaces and thin-walled parts in the mold industry, automotive industry, and aerospace industry. 1.
