Abstract: Based on the current use of frequency converters in subway escalators, this paper analyzes the main problems of motors after adopting frequency conversion technology. It proposes solutions to the temperature rise problem in motors after frequency conversion and argues that the application of frequency conversion technology in subway escalators should prioritize the relationship between energy saving and operational efficiency, achieving a perfect balance between energy conservation and safe equipment operation. However, due to the increasing number and variety of escalators in the Beijing Metro, numerous issues related to energy conservation and equipment maintenance have emerged. In recent years, the Beijing Metro has carried out frequency conversion upgrades on its escalators, applying frequency conversion technology to escalator control, which has played a positive role in saving energy and reducing mechanical wear. The principles for applying frequency converter technology to escalators are well-defined and conform to the actual operation of the metro. However, some design flaws exist in practical applications, particularly the heating and heat dissipation problems of the motor, posing a potential threat to the continuous and uninterrupted operation of metro escalators and causing escalator stoppages due to motor overheating. To change this situation and ensure the safe and reliable operation of escalators, the heating and heat dissipation problems of escalator motors should be addressed to reduce escalator stoppages caused by motor overheating and ensure uninterrupted operation.
