Abstract : This article introduces the energy-saving potential in pump and air blower loads, explains the energy-saving principle of using frequency converters, and analyzes the energy-saving situation with examples, aiming to promote energy-saving technology. Keywords : frequency converter, pump load, energy saving 0 Introduction Since the 1990s, frequency converters have been widely used in AC motors. Speed control systems using frequency converters to drive motors are playing an increasingly important role in many industries such as building materials and metallurgy. In general equipment selection and design, speed regulation is often the first choice for frequency converters, neglecting the fact that frequency converters were initially introduced into industrial applications for energy saving, resulting in frequency converters not receiving sufficient attention as an energy-saving product. The following section explains the energy-saving principles of frequency converters in pumps and fans, and illustrates the energy-saving effects with examples, hoping to benefit enterprises in energy conservation. 1. Energy-Saving Principles Generally, energy saving in production equipment can be achieved by reducing input power and operating time (or both). Fans and pumps are major power consumers in factories, typically accounting for 60% to 70% of an enterprise's electricity consumption. A typical airflow-pressure characteristic of a fan or blower is shown in Figure 1.
