Abstract : Gravure printing machines are named for their plate-like characteristics and occupy an important position in the flexible packaging industry due to their exquisite printing quality. This article introduces the scheme and advantages of using Innovace vector frequency converters to realize the tension control function in a seven-motor gravure printing machine. Keywords : gravure printing machine, vector frequency converter , tension converter 1 Introduction Gravure printing machines are named for their plate-like characteristics and occupy an important position in the flexible packaging industry due to their exquisite printing quality. They generally consist of an unwinding device, unwinding traction, main machine, rewinding traction, and rewinding device. Depending on the configuration, there are three-motor, five-motor, and seven-motor systems. The basic configuration of a typical gravure printing machine includes three motors: the main machine, the rewinding traction, and the unwinding traction. Unwinding tension is controlled by a magnetic powder brake, while rewinding tension is controlled by a torque motor or magnetic powder clutch; this is a basic three-motor system. If the unwinding and rewinding tensions are controlled by motors controlled by frequency converters, it becomes a five-motor system. For dual-station unwinding and rewinding systems with automatic roll changing, this constitutes a more advanced seven-motor system. In roll-to-roll printing, a certain tension is required to tighten the material before it enters the printing unit, and this tension must be kept stable during operation to ensure accurate color registration and beautiful patterns. Tension control is the core of gravure printing control technology. Stable tension control and minimal tension fluctuations result in high registration accuracy and printing speed. Because high-speed printing demands high color registration accuracy, the tension control accuracy throughout the process is crucial. For a long time, the drive section of seven-motor gravure printing machines has been dominated by imported frequency converters, with more advanced shaftless drive systems using servo controllers. In recent years, domestic vector frequency converters have been introduced, but due to the complexity of vector control algorithms, domestic vector frequency converters still lag slightly behind imported frequency converters in performance, primarily in terms of speed stability and dynamic response characteristics. Some domestically produced high-end frequency converters have already occupied an important position in the printing and packaging industry, but they are generally used in applications with less demanding requirements, such as laminating machines and slitting machines. The seven-motor gravure printing machine, which best reflects high-level requirements, has long been dominated by imported frequency converters. Shenzhen Huichuan Technology Co., Ltd.'s MD 320 series vector control frequency converter and MD 330 tension-specific frequency converter combine high-end performance with powerful functions. Utilizing their unique synchronous control and tension control functions, they effectively bridge the performance gap with imported high-end frequency converters and have been successfully applied to seven-motor gravure printing machine systems. This article compares and analyzes Huichuan frequency converter application solutions on seven-motor gravure printing machines with current industry solutions.
