A new method for maintaining inverter bus voltage during momentary power outages

Abstract : In industrial settings, when a frequency converter operates with a large inertial load, a momentary power outage may occur. Due to the large load inertia, the motor cannot start immediately after power is restored. To address this issue, a new solution is proposed: after a momentary power outage, the frequency converter operates at a reduced frequency in a regular manner, causing the asynchronous motor to enter a micro-generator state. The motor and the frequency converter form an autonomous system to maintain the frequency converter's bus voltage. After power is restored, the frequency converter returns to its rated operating state from the current operating frequency. The proposed solution was tested on a JD-BP32 frequency converter manufactured by Shandong Xinfengguang Electronic Technology Development Co., Ltd. The test results verified the correctness of the control scheme. Due to the large inertial load, the induction motor cannot be restarted up when power supply comes back. This article proposes a new method to solve this problem. In the process of power interruption the inverter reduces the operating frequency regularly to make the induction motor enter into the slightly generating mode and then the induction motor and the inverter make up of an autonomous system to maintain the d. C. 1ink voltage of the inverter. When power supply comes back, the inverter recovers to rated operating state from the current operating frequency. The proposed method was tested with a JD-BP32 inverter made by Shandong Xin Fengguang Electronic Science and Technology Development Ltd., and the core of the control strategy was verified. Keywords : Induction generator, inverter, DC-DC inverter voltage, large inertial load, power interruption. 1 Introduction In industrial settings, loads such as fans and pumps account for a significant proportion, some of which are high-inertia loads. When a motor is running with a high-inertia load, if the grid voltage is temporarily interrupted for some reason (such as the automatic reclosing device activating), and the grid power is restored momentarily, the motor cannot stop due to its large load inertia. The inverter generally cannot immediately restart the motor; instead, it waits until the motor has completely stopped before restarting it. Otherwise, during motor deceleration, if the frequency of the inverter output voltage differs significantly from the frequency corresponding to the motor speed, it can easily cause overcurrent in the motor windings, damaging the motor. This results in a prolonged motor shutdown process, affecting normal industrial production.
