1 Introduction
Zhejiang Juhua Co., Ltd. is a major electricity consumer in Zhejiang Province, consuming 1.7 billion kWh of electricity in 2006. It has nearly 200 high-voltage motors (including synchronous motors) totaling approximately 160,000 kW. As a large-scale integrated enterprise producing high-temperature, high-pressure, flammable, explosive, and toxic/hazardous media, safe production is of paramount importance. Due to continuous process improvements, the company has established an ERP and production information system to adapt to market changes, gradually making chemical production more flexible. However, motor mismatches with production process changes are becoming increasingly frequent, making speed regulation and energy saving increasingly urgent, and also necessary for automatic process adjustment. Therefore, the dual demands for energy saving and improved production processes make the application of high-voltage frequency converters in the transformation of chemical processes highly significant.
The high-voltage frequency converters are mainly applicable to asynchronous (synchronous) motors in our company's air compressors, circulating water pumps, SO2 fans, air blowers, ammonia compressors, CO2 compressors, nitrogen compressors, gas fans, and other media compressors. Due to the complexity of production processes, the application and regulation schemes of high-voltage frequency converters are quite complex, unlike the simple modification applications on water pumps and fans in general water companies and thermal power plants. Given that a set of high-voltage frequency converters (a process system unit may have one, two, or even four or more motors operating in parallel) constitutes a special case, this article analyzes the situations and experiences encountered during the modification and demonstration process.
