Abstract : In power plants, pumping stations, and the steel industry, fan and pump drive systems consume a significant amount of electricity annually. The adoption of hydraulic couplings has already saved the country over 2 billion kWh of electricity annually. However, from an energy-saving perspective, the economic benefits of variable frequency speed control (VFD) for AC motors are even more substantial. With the increasing maturity of domestically produced high-voltage, high-power VFD technology and the continuous reduction in product prices, vigorously promoting domestically produced high-voltage VFD speed control energy-saving devices is of great significance. Finally, specific data illustrates the importance of promoting the use of high-efficiency VFD speed control devices.

Abstract: Drive systems for pumps and blowers consume huge amount of electric energy in power plant, pump station and steel industry as wel1. By using hydraulic fluid coupling technology more than two billion kW ·h has been saved annuMly, however, from energy saving perspective, applying AC speed control for AC motor will bring even more savings in electric energy. With the proven development of domestic high voltage large capacity AC drive contml technology and the cost advantage, it becomes more and more imperative to push forward for the technology in all applications. The imperative necessity of generalizing high efficiency variable frequency speed adjusting energy saving u—nit was explained by data analysis.

0 Introduction
Drive systems such as fans and pumps, accounting for half of the total industrial electric drive volume, rely on baffles and valves to regulate flow, consuming a large amount of electricity annually. Using hydraulic couplings to regulate the speed of fans and pumps can achieve energy savings. Therefore, since the 1980s, approximately 4,000 hydraulic couplings have been put into operation, mostly with a power of 300–3,200 kW, saving the country over 2 billion kWh of electricity annually, creating significant economic benefits. With the increasing maturity of domestically produced high-power frequency converters, over 300 units have been successfully put into production in Beijing, Sichuan, Shandong, and other regions. In recent years, Shanghai Keda Company has promoted over 20 units in Shandong, Zhejiang, Xinjiang, and other regions, achieving good energy-saving results. A comparison of 15 technical indicators between domestically produced high-voltage frequency converters and imported frequency converters shows that domestically produced converters are significantly superior to imported products in 7 aspects (see Table 6). In 2005, it won a silver award at the Shanghai Science and Technology Expo.
