Abstract : The first phase of the Shenzhen Qianwan Power Plant consists of three 390 MW single-extraction gas-steam combined cycle units. During startup, high-pressure cooling, and water washing, the driving torque of the M701F gas turbine is provided by a generator operating as a synchronous motor. The generator speed is regulated by a static frequency converter (SFC). This paper introduces the acceleration principle and control mode of the SFC. Operational results demonstrate that starting the unit using an SFC offers high reliability, promising application prospects and significant research value. During the gas turbine start-up, the generator acts as a synchronous motor. SFC accelerates the rotor of turbine generator from totally stall/barring speed to high speed spin, washing or to the self-sustaining speed at which the gas turbine is able to generate enough power to continue the acceleration. This article introduces acceleration principle and control mode of frequency modulation starting process in details, in order to provide for reference and discussion. Key words: natural gas power plant; static frequency converter; automatic exciting adjuster 0 Introduction Globally, natural gas power generation has become an important energy source, but for my country, it is a relatively new industry. It is beneficial for optimizing and adjusting my country's energy structure, offering advantages such as short construction periods, low initial investment, small land occupation, rapid start-up and shutdown, water conservation, environmental friendliness, high power generation efficiency, and peak shaving capabilities. It can be located near load centers or urban areas, thus reducing the pressure on power grid construction and transmission. The Shenzhen Qianwan Gas Turbine Power Plant is a prime example. Given these characteristics, my country is vigorously constructing a gas turbine power plant with a construction scale of 3 x 390 MW single-shaft gas-steam combined cycle units. It was fully operational in April 2007, making it the earliest completed F-class gas turbine power plant in Guangdong Province.
