Application of variable frequency speed control technology in power plant auxiliary equipment

Abstract : This paper introduces the types and characteristics of frequency converters and the energy-saving principle of frequency conversion speed regulation. Taking the application of frequency conversion speed regulation in power plant auxiliary equipment as an example, its energy-saving benefits are analyzed. The application example shows that frequency conversion speed regulation technology has a good application prospect in energy saving, consumption reduction and improving the level of automatic control. Keywords : frequency conversion speed regulation; power plant; auxiliary equipment; energy saving 0 Introduction For a long time, the main auxiliary equipment of power plants has generally had the following problems in operation: (1) The motor runs at a fixed speed, and the power consumption cannot be adjusted according to the changes in the group load, which wastes electrical energy; (2) The flow rate is adjusted by baffle or valve, and the throttling loss is large; (3) The current actuator has a slow response speed and serious nonlinearity, the automatic commissioning rate of the system is low and the regulation quality is poor; (4) The reliability of the actuator and hydraulic coupler is poor, and it is easy to fail, resulting in low equipment utilization; (5) The starting current of the motor is generally 6 to 8 times the rated current, which seriously affects the insulation performance and service life of the motor. Variable frequency drive (VFD) speed control for power plant auxiliary equipment not only solves the problems of severe nonlinearity and large pure hysteresis in actuators and hydraulic couplings, improving system automation and operational reliability, but more importantly, it reduces throttling losses from regulating valves and baffles, improving economic efficiency and significantly reducing the power consumption of major auxiliary equipment in power plants. Currently, my country's power plants have approximately 350,000 auxiliary machines such as fans and pumps, with an installed capacity of over 7.5 million kW and an annual power consumption of over 40 billion kWh. Of these plant power loads, over 50% can be saved using VFD speed control; if we assume a 30% energy saving rate and an electricity price of 0.4 yuan/(kWh), the annual savings would be 2.4 billion yuan.
