Abstract : This paper introduces an automatic winding system for wet-laid glass fiber mat using a Siemens S7-314C-2DP programmable logic controller (PLC) and a Lenze frequency converter via PRORBUS-DP communication control. The system composition, working principle, tension control analysis and adjustment are detailed, and the software design is briefly introduced. Keywords: PLC, frequency converter, PRORBUS-DP, winding. Winding is the final step in the production of wet-laid glass fiber mat. To achieve optimal winding quality (tight roll, flush end faces), an ideal control method is required. Currently, most winding devices use magnetic powder clutches and brakes or torque motors for constant tension control. The electrical characteristics of the torque motor are used to control the tension during the winding process; that is, when the load increases, the output shaft speed of the motor automatically decreases, thus keeping the tension of the mat essentially constant. While these two winding control methods are simple in structure, their control functions are not perfect. This system can automatically flip and switch shafts to preset lengths, automatically cut laterally and trim longitudinally, and continuously wind products on dual-station reels via control software. It can display winding diameter, winding tension, and actual linear speed online, meeting the winding requirements of different types of fiberglass wet-laid mats. 1 System Overview This system consists of one Siemens S7-314C-2DP programmable controller, three Lenze93 series AC servo controllers, and one Lenze82 series frequency converter for flipping. The PLC exchanges information with the three 9326 AC servo controllers via the PRORBUS-DP bus, including initial winding diameter, actual winding diameter, and calculated tension value, achieving variable tension torque control with winding diameter calculation.
