Abstract : To improve the performance of general-purpose frequency converters, this paper introduces a fully digital variable frequency speed control system with a main circuit employing an AC-DC-AC structure and a control circuit using a single-chip microcomputer MCS8031 and an SPWM integrated chip SLE4520. The basic principles of the system are analyzed, and the hardware and software design of the general-purpose variable frequency speed control system is described. This type of system has wide applications in today's demanding control systems and increasingly energy-constrained environments. In particular, the use of single-chip microcomputers and SPWM integrated chips has ushered in a new era of digital control replacing analog control systems. The design of general-purpose frequency converters is rapidly evolving towards microcomputer control and shifting from hardware control to software control. Intelligent software control has become a development trend in the design of general-purpose frequency converters. The core of software control in inverters has evolved from low-performance 120° and 180° conduction type control to high-performance 51-pin ZM control. Currently, digital control in general-purpose frequency converter designs mostly employs a combination of hardware and software, with software control typically implemented using a single-chip microcomputer. This paper elucidates the basic working principle, hardware design, and software design of a general-purpose frequency converter. The inverter control utilizes an 8031 microcomputer and an SLE4520 integrated chip to generate an sPWM waveform, which is then used in a drive circuit to effectively control the inverter's IGBTs. General-purpose frequency converters based on the 8031 microcomputer and SLE4520 integrated chip can save 25-30% of energy compared to other systems using constant-speed drives for square-law loads such as fans and pumps. The control system based on the microcomputer and SLE4520 integrated chip offers good flexibility, allowing for further performance improvements through software modifications without hardware changes. This has wide applications in today's demanding control system environments with increasingly scarce energy supplies.
