Abstract : This paper describes how to improve the external operating environment of electric motors by adopting phase-controlled energy-saving technology, thereby achieving dynamic power management and realizing energy conservation and consumption reduction. Keywords : AC motor; phase-controlled technology; energy saving; flexible power management; application 1 Necessity and Urgency of Electric Motor Energy Conservation Electric motors are the main power machinery in electrification and also the main energy-consuming equipment in the power grid. In China, approximately 1 billion AC motors are in use, consuming 60% of the total power grid load and 70% of the total industrial electricity consumption. About 60% of electric motors in China operate under underload conditions, below 60% of their design rated load. Under these conditions, up to 30% of the electrical energy is wasted. Therefore, China has formulated the "Energy Conservation Law" and related preferential policies such as loans and taxes for energy-saving technological upgrades to encourage enterprises to adopt new technologies and products to reduce energy consumption. Currently, my country has 400 million kW of high-energy-consuming motors in service (with losses accounting for 10%-23% of rated output), of which 50% are high-energy-consuming products that need to be phased out. More than 200,000 motors burn out annually, resulting in repair costs of approximately 2 billion yuan and losses from work stoppages reaching tens of billions of yuan. There are two main technical approaches to energy saving in electric motors: one is to improve the motor's structural design and adopt new materials to upgrade older motors; the other is to improve the external operating environment of the motor. Phase-controlled energy-saving technology uses improved external operating environment to achieve dynamic power management and is one of the two mainstream energy-saving technologies for AC motors, complementing frequency converters.
