Abstract : Simulation studies of the operation mode of a reluctance rotor brushless doubly-fed motor were conducted using Madab/Simulink. The results show that the motor has good starting performance in synchronous operation and good speed regulation performance in subsynchronous operation. Keywords : brushless doubly-fed motor; reluctance; simulation; operation mode 1 Introduction Brushless doubly-fed motors have the advantages of simple structure, reliable operation, and low required inverter power. Speed regulation systems composed of brushless doubly-fed motors are particularly suitable for speed regulation of fans and pumps, and are promising energy-saving speed regulation systems. The performance of brushless doubly-fed motors and the coupling between the stator main and auxiliary windings mainly depend on the rotor structure. Reluctance rotor brushless doubly-fed motors are one of the research hotspots both domestically and internationally. This paper adopts the dq model of the reluctance rotor brushless doubly-fed motor in a rotating coordinate system. This model is similar to the model of an induction motor and has the characteristics of simplicity, intuitiveness, and ease of understanding. This paper establishes a dq equivalent model of a reluctance rotor brushless doubly-fed motor using Matlab/Simulink. Simultaneously, the characteristics of the motor under several operating modes are simulated and analyzed using the Simulink model of the motor. 2. Working Principle and Operating Modes When the brushless doubly-fed motor is running, three symmetrical alternating currents of different frequencies are supplied to the main and auxiliary windings respectively. Therefore, two rotating magnetic fields with different pole numbers and different speeds will exist simultaneously in the same motor. The rotor couples these two fields simultaneously, acting as a pole number converter.
