Design of AC electrical drive system for rewinder

Abstract: This paper presents the design of an AC rewinding machine electrical control system using an ABB dedicated frequency converter as the drive controller and a Siemens PLC and touch screen as the upper control unit. With the development of frequency conversion control technology, AC frequency conversion speed regulation has become the mainstream of motor speed regulation due to its advantages of high precision, fast response, and high reliability. Furthermore, from a cost-performance perspective, AC speed regulation devices are superior to DC speed regulation devices, so the main drive of rewinding machines is also shifting from DC drive to AC drive. This paper introduces the design of an AC rewinding machine electrical control system for a 2640/1200 double-support roller paper feeding AC rewinding machine with a frequency converter as the main drive controller. 1 System Composition This rewinding machine has three main drive points. The system uses an ABB ACS600 series frequency converter as the main drive controller, with a PLC as the control center. The PLC connects to the frequency converter via MODBUS fieldbus to form a PLC-VVVF lower control system, and connects to the touch screen via MPI interface to form an upper monitoring system. The system block diagram is shown in Figure 1. Based on the required specifications, we selected two dedicated frequency converters from the ACS600 series. One converter, equipped with master-slave application macros, controls the front and rear bottom rollers, while the other, equipped with a curling application macro, controls the paper feed roller. The internal functions of the frequency converters allow for convenient torque control of the front and rear bottom rollers and tension control of the paper feed roller. The control center unit, a SIEMENS S7-300 series CPU 314, is used to form a MoDBUS communication network with the frequency converters, enabling control of the frequency converters and reading of their operating parameters. Since the paper feed roller frequency converter does not support the MoDBUS communication protocol, a communication adapter is needed to convert the MoDBUS protocol to the DDCS communication protocol. The interface connects to a touchscreen, transmitting the frequency converter's operating results to the OP27 and simultaneously transmitting commands from the OP27 to the frequency converter. The OP27 is a graphical operator panel配套 with the PLC, primarily for management and monitoring. It allows for setting various parameters and operating statuses, and displays curves showing changes in current, voltage, speed, and tension, facilitating parameter analysis and adjustment.
