0 Introduction

The excellent speed regulation performance, flexible control characteristics, significant energy-saving effect, and continuous technological innovation of frequency converters have brought obvious benefits to improving the equipment operating environment and increasing enterprise efficiency. When applied to high-power, high-voltage speed-regulating drive systems, these characteristics become even more prominent, further improving energy-saving effects and overall operating efficiency. The starting characteristics of large motors are improved, and the service life of the motor and its connected machinery is extended. Due to the reduction in starting current of large motors, frequent starting will no longer subject the electrical system to frequent shocks, resulting in a more stable and safer electrical system.

1. Main features of the system

The No. 3 rich gas compressor in our coking unit is a key piece of equipment in the coking capacity expansion and renovation project. It has a large capacity and performs a special process, driving a large compressor to compress excess gas. Due to the instability of the compressor load, the gas flow rate varies with changes in the unit's processing capacity, resulting in a relatively low operating efficiency. Improving the unit's operating efficiency so that it maintains a high overall efficiency regardless of load changes is crucial for energy conservation, consumption reduction, and economical operation of the entire unit. Furthermore, the unit needs good speed regulation performance for more stable operation, smoother production, and easier control. Additionally, it needs to be able to achieve soft start to mitigate the impact on equipment (especially compressor seals, which are easily damaged) and the power grid during full-pressure startup of a large unit. To achieve these control requirements, a frequency converter is undoubtedly the best choice.
