Abstract : This paper proposes a scheme for CNC retrofitting of a conventional grinding machine using a PC, and designs a PC-based control system. This system utilizes a PC to control an AC asynchronous motor to control the feed rate of the grinding machine's feed mechanism. Furthermore, it employs a self-learning control principle and a variable speed/acceleration displacement command generation method, enabling rapid feed and slow infeed in grinding and sectioning processes, thereby reducing the impact of inertia at the target point on machining accuracy. This system can achieve automated grinding of parts with general precision requirements. Keywords : Ordinary grinding machine; AC asynchronous motor drive; self-learning control; PC CNC system. CNC technology is one of the core technologies of CNC machine tools and an important foundation for the modernization of manufacturing. It has received high attention in various countries. Although CNC technology for grinding started relatively late, it has achieved remarkable results and developed many control schemes. These control schemes all use stepper motors or AC (DC) servo motors as drive sources. They have high control accuracy and are currently widely used in industrial CNC machine tools. However, stepper motors, AC (DC) servo motors and their drivers are expensive. They are necessary for CNC machine tools with high control accuracy requirements, but for workpieces with lower machining accuracy requirements, the above control schemes are somewhat uneconomical. This paper modifies an ordinary grinding machine, adopts the self-learning control principle and the method of generating variable speed and variable acceleration displacement commands, and uses a PC to control the AC asynchronous motor to realize the control of the feed amount of the ordinary grinding machine's feed mechanism, enabling rapid feed in grinding. Slow entry reduces the impact of inertia at the target point on feed accuracy; and it enables automatic machining of parts with general precision requirements. This not only achieves low-cost automatic control of ordinary grinding machine machining but also meets certain precision requirements.
