Application of frequency converters in boiler induced draft fans

In oilfield extraction and transportation, boilers are indispensable for heating and insulation. Traditionally, the airflow control of boiler induced draft fans relies on damper regulation, resulting in significant energy waste. Switching to variable speed operation, allowing the motor's power consumption to vary with load, can save substantial energy. The drive motor of the boiler induced draft fan operates at a high speed and constant speed. Traditionally, the airflow is controlled by the damper opening, wasting considerable electrical energy. A key characteristic of the fan is that shaft power is proportional to the cube of its rotational speed. Using variable frequency speed control, adjusting the motor frequency, and reducing the fan speed even slightly, significantly reduces shaft power. Furthermore, lower fan speeds reduce wear on the fan impeller, casing, and bearings, extending maintenance cycles and equipment lifespan, thus saving on maintenance costs. Additionally, during boiler combustion, maintaining stable steam pressure under varying load conditions requires adjusting the amount of fuel and air entering the furnace. To ensure the furnace temperature reaches a certain value and balances the boiler's steam production with steam consumption, variable frequency speed control (VFD) technology is used to open the original fan dampers to their maximum. The VFD controls the airflow by changing the fan motor speed. This ensures the necessary oxygen and maintains a certain negative pressure for complete combustion of combustibles in the boiler furnace. Working principle: An online monitoring system for excess air coefficient and furnace negative pressure is composed of zirconium oxide and a negative pressure sensor. The VFD controls the speed of the forced draft and induced draft fans. The forced draft and induced draft fan speeds are adjusted based on the oxygen and negative pressure required for boiler combustion. The control principle involves the VFD outputting adjustable-frequency three-phase AC power to change the motor speed according to the calculation relationship between the control signal magnitude and the set control value, thereby achieving energy saving and improving the boiler's air distribution control performance.
