Abstract : This paper introduces the control principle of a permanent magnet synchronous motor driven by a Siemens MicroMaster440 frequency converter in an open-loop manner, and analyzes the precautions for applying this drive system to a villa elevator and the main parameter setting principles of the frequency converter. Keywords : Permanent magnet synchronous motor, frequency converter, drive mode 1 Overview In recent years, with the gradual maturation of permanent magnet motors and their drive technology, permanent magnet synchronous motors, with their small size, low inertia, high efficiency, and high power factor, have seen an accelerated increase in their application in elevator traction machines. There are two main drive modes for permanent magnet synchronous motors: one is the self-adjusting closed-loop speed control drive mode, which requires feedback on the motor rotor speed and position, thus forming a closed-loop feedback control. Elevator traction machines commonly use photoelectric encoders to provide feedback on the motor rotor speed and position. The frequency converter continuously optimizes the motor operating conditions based on the encoder feedback signal to achieve vector control of the motor and realize stable speed regulation of the system. The other is the AC synchronous open-loop drive mode, in which the permanent magnet synchronous motor strives to maintain synchronization with the power supply frequency, so the system does not require speed or position feedback. The Siemens MicroMaster440 low-power frequency converter can be powered by AC220V and paired with a permanent magnet synchronous motor of the same voltage level to form a home appliance-style villa elevator drive system. This system uses an open-loop drive method, which is very suitable for villa elevators. 2 Control Principle The frequency converter uses a linear characteristic U/f control method (P1300 parameter set to 0), as shown in Figure 1. Under this control method, the working principle of the permanent magnet synchronous motor is the same as that of a regular synchronous motor.
