Shortwave Array Signal Generator Based on DSP+DUC

Abstract : To obtain shortwave antenna array signals in the laboratory, a practical circuit—a shortwave array signal generator—was designed using a DSP chip and a DUC chip (digital upconverter). This circuit simulates and implements the array output signals of various array configurations of a shortwave nine-element antenna array, different incoming wave directions, and the presence of multiple signals at the same frequency. Introduction Array signal processing, as an important branch of digital signal processing, is widely used in many fields such as radar, sonar, communication, seismic exploration, and medical imaging. The shortwave band is commonly used for shortwave direction finding and beamforming technology. In the shortwave band, array signal processing equipment typically consists of three main components: a shortwave antenna array, a shortwave multi-channel receiver, and a back-end array signal processor. The shortwave antenna array receives shortwave signals in space, the shortwave receiver performs analog downconversion on the HF signals, and the array signal processor digitally samples the output signal from the shortwave multi-channel receiver and performs corresponding array signal processing algorithms to provide the final calculation results. Due to the limitations of the shortwave frequency band, shortwave antenna arrays typically have large antenna elements and large apertures, often occupying nearly ten acres. Furthermore, to achieve good reception, shortwave antenna arrays have very high requirements for the surrounding electromagnetic environment. All of this brings great inconvenience to the debugging and testing during the development of shortwave array signal processors, and is also detrimental to the research and verification of various DSP algorithms for different array manifolds of shortwave signals. In view of the actual situation of shortwave array signal processing equipment development and debugging, the author designed an array signal generator that simulates the output signal of a shortwave antenna array using a digital signal processor (DSP) chip and a digital upconverter (DUC) chip. This generator can replace the shortwave antenna array in a laboratory environment, generating shortwave array signals corresponding to various array manifolds, and providing conditions for debugging and verifying the DSP algorithms of the array signal processor.
