Abstract: Addressing the complexity, technological characteristics, and requirements of the papermaking process, this paper proposes an intelligent control method combining fuzzy control and expert systems for moisture control in the papermaking process. Practice has proven that this controller meets the technological requirements for moisture control in the papermaking process and exhibits good robustness. Introduction The papermaking industry is one of the foundational industries of China's national economy, holding a vital position and role. Basis weight and moisture content are two crucial indicators determining paper quality. For example, changes in basis weight affect paper uniformity, smoothness, moisture content, and physical strength. Changes in moisture content can cause paper defects such as bubbles, water spots, and brittleness, as well as weakening paper strength and even causing breakage, while also increasing energy consumption. Controlling these two indicators effectively can ensure paper quality, save energy, reduce costs, and increase output. However, because the papermaking process is a complex, time-varying system with numerous random disturbances, large time lags, nonlinearity, and strong coupling, conventional adjustment methods are difficult to use to meet control requirements.
