SafetyEYE and PSENvip: Safety Systems Based on New Vision Technologies

If you want to achieve more efficient 3D real-time monitoring of your production site, or if you want to visualize the machine's operation, then Pilz's newly launched SafetyEYE and PSENvip safety systems, based on new vision technologies, will provide you with brand-new solutions. SafetyEYE is the world's first safety camera system, ideal for situations where several safety light curtains or security scanners were previously required to meet relevant safety requirements. Figure 1 shows the system's appearance and working range. As can be seen from the figure, the maximum installation height of the device can reach 10m, and the monitoring area is 120m². If installed above the monitored area, technicians can easily achieve 3D stereoscopic monitoring of the production area, achieving a safety level of SIL2. SafetyEYE's powerful safety monitoring capabilities not only improve a company's safety standards but also simplify the investment in safety equipment, reducing production costs. Figure 2 shows a windshield adhesive application station for automobiles. In this production area, the windshields to be coated are transported to two coating stations via a logistics line. After the conveyor belt stops moving, workers enter the work area to apply the adhesive. In such a work area, if traditional safety light curtains and scanners are used as safety protection equipment, each station would require one safety light curtain and one safety scanner. Furthermore, careful site planning and tedious debugging are necessary before installation. During production, frequent worker movement can easily trigger the safety light curtains and scanners, necessitating readjustment and impacting overall factory efficiency. Figure 2 shows the SafetyEYE (yellow) used at the windshield adhesive application station. In contrast, the SafetyEYE's monitoring range reaches 120m², so only one SafetyEYE is needed to cover the entire work area for both stations. In terms of price, the SafetyEYE offers better value for money compared to a system consisting of safety light curtains and scanners. In terms of technology, SafetyEYE adopts three-dimensional photography technology, so it can monitor the area below it in three dimensions, which is something that safety light curtains or safety scanners cannot achieve. Users can flexibly divide the area monitored by SafetyEYE into multiple independent monitoring areas through a PC, which can provide convenience for users to modify equipment in the future. In addition, through Ethernet connection, SafetyEYE can transmit real-time images of the site to the PC, so that the production conditions can be monitored in real time in the main control room, and SafetyEYE also has a photo-taking function. In terms of installation and debugging, SafetyEYE can be put into use simply by fixing it on top of the machine and making slight adjustments. 2. It has advanced supporting software SafetyEYE Configurator is the configuration software of SafetyEYE. Users only need to install it on a PC to configure the area and display real-time images of the SafetyEYE installed on site. When an operator touches this area, SafetyEYE will trigger the safety controller to cut off the output, causing the machine to stop immediately. (2) Warning area. When an operator touches this area, SafetyEYE will trigger the safety controller to make the machine run at a slow speed, thus reminding the operator that they have entered the warning area. (3) Shielded area. The shielded area is configured within the danger zone or warning zone. When an operator enters the shielded area, it will not affect the danger zone or warning zone surrounding it. PSENvip PSENvip (see Figure 4) is a safety protection device with advanced vision technology developed specifically for the safety protection system of bending machines. It adopts a unique and innovative optical concept to monitor the working process of the bending machine in a visual way, providing efficient, flexible and highly available safety protection for the bending machine. The safety level can reach Cat.4. Using PSENvip, three red protection zones are formed below the workpiece of the bending machine. When the operator touches these areas, PSENvip will output a signal, which will safely and reliably cut off the power to the corresponding control valve through the connected safety control module, so that the workpiece of the bending machine can be safely stopped and the operator can be prevented from being injured. 1. Four safety protection modes Many bending machines have a "box bending" function. If a traditional safety light curtain is used, it will bring many inconveniences to the operation. In contrast, PSENvip can provide four different safety protection operation modes for bending machines: (1) Standard mode. All three protection areas are active. (2) Box bending. Only the center area and the rear area are active. (3) Ordinary bending with back gauge. Only the front area and the center area are active. (4) Box bending with back gauge. Only the center area is active. 2. Other features (1) PSENvip has a communication interface, which can communicate with the safety control module and the CNC system. This makes it convenient for users to change the operation mode and improve usability. (2) The display screen embedded in the panel adopts an innovative optical concept, which has a certain degree of anti-interference capability against scattering, vibration and reflection. It not only makes it convenient for users to install and adjust, but the new version of PSENvip also integrates an angle detection function, which facilitates users to inspect the quality of processed parts.
