Abstract : Upgrading the boiler air supply control system using a high-voltage frequency converter can change the adjustment method of the blower, achieve automated control, and save a significant amount of electrical energy. Keywords : Frequency conversion technology; blower; automated control; energy saving and consumption reduction. The Guangzhou Petrochemical Thermal Power Plant provides air supply services for oil refining and chemical production. The heat load of the thermal power plant fluctuates frequently due to changes in the load of the oil refining and chemical system. To adapt to changes in heat load, it is necessary to adjust the blower dampers in a timely manner to control the air supply volume. This air supply control has the following problems in actual operation: First, the motor operates at a fixed speed, and the power cannot be adjusted according to changes in heat load, resulting in a large waste of electrical energy; second, damper adjustment causes significant air pressure loss, and at high wind speeds, impact losses occur on the dampers; third, the blower dampers are controlled by high-torque electric actuators, resulting in slow response speed and poor adjustment accuracy and reliability; fourth, the starting current of the blower is very large when it is started electrically, 5 to 7 times the rated current, seriously affecting the insulation performance and service life of the boiler. To address these problems, it is necessary to reasonably upgrade the blower air supply control system. Using a high-voltage frequency converter to steplessly regulate the speed of the blower motor can effectively control the air volume, thereby achieving both automated control and energy saving. 1. Feasibility of Variable Frequency Technology Application Variable frequency speed regulation technology is currently recognized worldwide as the best energy-saving technology for motors. Since 1994, Guangzhou Petrochemical has successively adopted this technology in the pumps and motors of the main units in its refinery, fertilizer plant, and power plant, all with excellent results. 1.1 Variable Frequency Speed Regulation Principle The basic principle of variable frequency speed regulation is to change the motor speed by changing the frequency of the motor power supply.
