Abstract : Combining parallel robotics theory and engineering practice in parallel machine tool development, this paper systematically discusses the theory and technology of configuration design, mechanism kinematics design, overall machine structure design, dynamics design, precision design, and CNC system design of parallel machine tools. It also provides a preliminary exploration of the design environment for parallel machine tools and the adoption of virtual product design technology. Their initial prototype was the Stewart parallel manipulator proposed in 1965. In the mid-1990s, industrialized countries such as the United States successively launched various commercial prototypes of parallel machine tools, causing a sensation in the world's manufacturing industry and being hailed as a "major revolution in machine tool structure" and "a new generation of CNC machining equipment for the 21st century." Currently, the international academic and engineering communities attach great importance to the research and development of parallel machine tools, and China's machine tool industry is facing new opportunities and challenges. Because the theory and design technology of parallel machine tools are not yet fully mature, their machining performance is still insufficient compared to traditional CNC machine tools and machining centers. It is hoped that in-depth research into the design technology of parallel machine tools will improve their operational performance, fully utilize the advantages of parallel mechanisms such as high stiffness-to-weight ratio, fast response speed, and flexible structural layout, and make parallel machine tools truly competitive with traditional CNC machine tools. This paper systematically discusses the relevant theories and technologies of parallel machine tools from the aspects of parallel machine tool configuration design, mechanism kinematic design, detailed design of the whole machine, CNC system design, and design environment, combined with the engineering practice of parallel machine tool development, and conducts a preliminary exploration of its research direction. 1 Parallel Machine Tool Configuration Design Configuration design is the primary step in the design of parallel machine tools. Through configuration design, parallel machine tools can realize various practical machining functions, forming a complete series of machining equipment with a rich product line. This meets the ever-growing demands of the manufacturing industry for machining equipment.
