Abstract: Based on the superior performance of predictive control, Dynamic Matrix Control (DMC) from the field of process control is applied to the field of motion control. A DMC controller is designed according to the DMC algorithm to improve the dynamic performance of a DC speed control system. This paper also presents MATLAB simulations using both DMC and PI control of the same DC speed control system. The simulation results demonstrate the superior performance of DMC. A DMC controller was designed based on DMC algorithm to improve the dynamic performances of DC motor's speed adjusting system. The two simulations of DMC and PI were both done for one same speed adjusting system. The results of the simulations show the excellent control quality of DMC. Therefore, adjustable speed transmission systems with high performance requirements often use DC motors. Traditional DC speed adjustment systems generally use PI controllers combined with feedback closed-loop control. However, modern high-tech industries have increasingly higher requirements for control quality, and PI control often cannot meet the increasingly high requirements for speed while ensuring system stability. Dynamic Matrix Control (DMC) algorithm is a predictive control algorithm. Its development and application in industrial process control have yielded excellent control results. This paper introduces the DMC algorithm into the field of motion control, using a DMC controller to replace the classic PI controller to improve the dynamic performance of the DC speed control system. Furthermore, this paper utilizes MATLAB/Simulink simulation software to simulate and analyze the DMC control of the DC speed control system.
