Abstract : Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are a new research field in computer science and technology, and have gradually become a research hotspot in both industry and academia. Integrating four major technologies—sensors, embedded computing, networking, and wireless communication—WSNs represent a novel information acquisition and processing technology, considered one of the top ten technologies poised to change the world. Currently, the emergence of inexpensive CMOS cameras and microphones, coupled with the demand for rich image, video, and audio information, has led to the development of Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks (WMSNs). WMSNs are a novel information acquisition and processing technology primarily used for the acquisition and processing of multimedia data such as audio and video in military, civilian, and commercial fields. WMSNs are characterized by limited resources, variable channel capacity, and high data redundancy. This paper briefly introduces the concept of wireless multimedia sensor networks, focusing on their network structure and corresponding key system technologies. Keywords : Wireless multimedia sensor network; network structure; key technologies With the rapid development of electronic technology, sensing technology, and wireless communication technology, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have attracted widespread attention and are hailed as one of the three major high-tech industries of the future. Wireless sensor networks (WMSNs) are multi-hop, self-organizing wireless network systems composed of a large number of sensor nodes deployed in a monitoring area. Each sensor node collaboratively senses, collects, and processes information about the objects within the network's coverage area and transmits this information to interested users. WMSNs have wide applications in military, industrial and agricultural control, medical, and environmental monitoring fields. The development of hardware technology, the emergence of inexpensive CMOS cameras and microphones, and the urgent need for rich image, audio, and video data of monitored objects have led to the emergence of WMSNs. WMSNs have also expanded the application scope of sensor networks. 1.
