1 Introduction The CIPH9803A is a programmable five-phase stepper motor control chip. This chip features multiple setting functions, including step count (maximum 1 million steps), reversible operation, start, stop, pause, working speed, and fast speed. It has a sensor signal input port for controlling the positioning and stopping of the stepper motor. Practical applications show that the five-phase stepper motor control circuit based on the CIPH9803A dedicated chip has advantages such as low cost and high reliability, making it particularly suitable for the technical transformation of machine tool equipment. 2 Pin Functions and Technical Parameters 2.1 Pin Functions The pin arrangement of the CIPH9803A chip is shown in Figure 1. The functions of each pin are as follows: RST: Reset pin, active high. During normal operation, this pin should be low; OUT1~OUT5: Excitation outputs for phases A to E of the five-phase stepper motor, all active negative pulses, with a load current less than 25mA; XTAL1, XTAL2: Crystal oscillator circuit input terminals; STOP: Stepper motor stop input terminal, active negative pulse. When the stepper motor reaches the designated position, a negative pulse generated by the photoelectric sensor can be input to this terminal to automatically stop the stepper motor; LED: Key indicator output terminal, active low. When any key on the keyboard is pressed, this terminal outputs a low level; GND: Power ground; VDD: Positive power supply terminal (+2.7~+6.5V); C1~C4: Used to connect to columns 1~4 of the matrix keyboard respectively; R1~R4: Used to connect to rows 1~4 of the matrix keyboard respectively. 2.2 Main Technical Parameters The main technical parameters of CIPH9803A are as follows: ● Operating speed: 6r/min; ● Rapid speed: 60r/min; ●OUT1~OUT5: Five-phase excitation output of the stepper motor, five-phase ten-step, load capacity less than 25mA; ● Maximum step setting: 999999 steps. 3 Working Principle When CIPH9803A is working, the number of steps of the stepper motor should first be set by the keyboard. During the stepper motor step count setting process, if an error is found in the currently entered number, press the "C" function key to clear it. Each press of the "C" function key clears one entered digit; pressing the "C" function key six times in a row will clear all six entered digits. After setting the step count, the "A" function key can be used to set the forward/reverse indicator. The "A" function key is a dual-function switch for forward and reverse rotation, with forward rotation as the default. The "B" function key can be used to set the speed indicator for both normal and fast rotation, with normal speed as the default. Once the stepper motor's step count, forward/reverse indicator, and speed indicator are set, pressing the "E" function key will immediately start the stepper motor. If you need to pause the stepper motor during operation, simply press the "D" key. Pressing the "D" key again will resume the stepper motor's operation. There are three ways to stop a stepper motor: 1) it stops automatically after running a specified number of steps; 2) it stops forcibly by pressing the "F" function key; 3) the stopping is controlled by the positioning signal obtained by the positioning sensor. In the diagram, the solid-state relay is the power driver for the stepper motor. Users should select the appropriate solid-state relay model based on the stepper motor load, such as 5A, 10A, 15A, 20A, etc. 5. Conclusion The five-phase stepper motor control system based on the CIPH9803A dedicated chip features high integration, simple peripheral circuitry, easy maintenance, and reliable operation. After being used in the technical transformation of machine tool equipment at a certain electromechanical company in Tianjin, the system achieved excellent results.
