Abstract : In practical applications, the power factor, as an indicator of energy saving, has not been given sufficient attention, leading to the inappropriate application of general-purpose frequency converters. Given the limited existing literature on the power factor and its application in energy saving through variable frequency speed control of AC motors, this paper discusses improving the power factor. It investigates the changes in the power factor of AC motors under general operating conditions and with general-purpose frequency converters under variable frequency speed control, making a simple comparison to promote the rational application of general-purpose frequency converters and achieve good economic benefits.
