Abstract: This paper develops a part dimension measurement system using an image acquisition card from NI (National Instruments) on the LabVIEW platform. Experimental studies demonstrate the system's high accuracy. Keywords: Part dimension measurement; LabVIEW; Image acquisition 1 Introduction The precision and complexity of machining are always closely related to the development level of measurement technology. Image measurement technology, which has developed in recent years, can adapt to the measurement requirements of new manufacturing technologies. The development of image sensors (CCD cameras), image acquisition cards, computers, and their image processing software packages has led to the widespread application of computer-based image inspection systems in practice. 2 Composition of the Part Dimension Measurement System The composition of the LabVIEW-based part dimension measurement system is shown in Figure 1. The NI PCI-1411 image acquisition card transmits images of the part captured by the CCD camera to the computer. After receiving the images, the computer uses the IMAQ Vision image processing software package provided by LabVIEW to program and perform a series of processing steps on the obtained images to obtain the part dimensions.
