Abstract: This paper studies a solar azimuth detection system based on an image sensor. The OV7620 CMOS image sensor is used as the photosensitive element to acquire and receive image signals corresponding to the solar azimuth. These signals are then stored and processed by a TMS320LF2407A digital signal processor (DSP) to obtain the solar azimuth coordinates and detect the sun's movement in real time. The system has a simple structure, is easy to use, and is suitable for widespread application. A CMOS image sensor OV7620 was used as the photosensitive organ. The digital image signal was conserved and processed by a digital signal processor (DSP) TMS320LF2407A, which computed the solar position and coordinates. The system could check solar movement in real time. It has the advantages of simple structure, ease of use, and wide applicability. However, solar energy also suffers from disadvantages such as low density, intermittency, and constantly changing spatial distribution, resulting in low energy utilization rates for current solar energy equipment. The solar tracking system provides a solution to this problem. Its function is to keep the sensing surface of the photoreceptor of the solar energy device perpendicular to the sunlight, so as to maximize the sensing of solar energy and improve the energy utilization rate of the solar energy device. To achieve solar tracking, the position of the sun must be detected first, and then the position of the sensing surface of the photoreceptor must be adjusted. The existing methods for detecting the sun's position using photosensitive sensors include the multivariate method [1] and the comparison control method [2]. However, when applying these methods, the structure of the device is relatively complex, or the tracking range is small and the accuracy is limited. To improve the above problems, this paper proposes a solar position detection system based on DSP and image sensor. The system's image acquisition device, hardware circuit and software algorithm are designed to realize the real-time detection and positioning of the sun's movement. 2 Working principle of the system The sunlight is projected as a light spot on the semi-transparent receiving screen after passing through the imaging mechanism (primary sensor). The CMOS image sensor OV7620 (secondary sensor) below the receiving screen performs photoelectric conversion, amplification and A/D conversion on the image of the receiving screen, and finally outputs a digital image signal. The DSP TMS320LF2407A completes the storage and processing of digital image signals, extracts the brightness characteristics of the light spot, and measures the elevation angle and azimuth angle of the center of the light spot relative to the receiving screen [3] to obtain the elevation angle and azimuth angle of the sun and display them on the LED digital tube.
