A routing algorithm based on optical network state awareness

Abstract : Intelligent optical network self-sensing technology is the foundation of autonomous optical networks. Research on it abroad is still in its early stages. It integrates knowledge from multiple disciplines such as optical communication, distributed computing, and artificial intelligence, playing an immeasurable role in the development of intelligent networks. This paper studies intelligent optical network self-sensing technology, proposes a design scheme for intelligent optical network state awareness technology, and a routing mechanism based on it. Intelligent optical network state awareness technology first requires selecting parameters that characterize the network state, such as end-to-end delay, core node delay, jitter, and packet loss rate. Then, innovative methods, such as packet probing technology and route marking, are used to sense these parameters. After obtaining the parameters, based on the characteristics of the service and the node parameters characterizing the network state, appropriate routes are selected for the service according to end-to-end delay, jitter, and packet loss rate. This paper elaborates on the above theory. This method can significantly improve the utilization of network resources and better guarantee the quality of service. Introduction For a long time, the development of optical communication technology has been guided by high speed, large capacity, and long distance. The application of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology has effectively met the bandwidth demands of various rapidly growing new services. While current fiber optic communication networks can provide sufficient transmission capacity, their level of intelligence remains very rudimentary. Intelligent optical network self-awareness technology studies the high-level intelligence of various types of optical networks from a higher and more comprehensive perspective. It enables autonomous awareness of the characteristics of the optical network itself and the features of access services. Based on this, without manual or network management intervention, it can select appropriate optical switches according to the characteristics of the optical network and the features of the accessed services, completing self-organized optical routing. It can autonomously control the routing, switching, QoS, real-time protection, and dynamic recovery of the optical network, thereby truly realizing autonomous optimization, autonomous operation, autonomous management, and autonomous maintenance of the optical network, meeting the requirements of service-oriented, IP-based intelligent optical networks.
