Use and maintenance of vacuum booster pumps

Vacuum booster pumps are mainly used for vacuum extraction in the power braking systems of light-duty vehicles, and can also be used in other transport vehicles and construction machinery. Using a vacuum-assisted braking system can improve braking reliability and reduce driver fatigue, which helps reduce the accident rate and improve overall vehicle safety. Currently, the development of light-duty vehicles in China is rapid, which undoubtedly provides a broad market for vacuum booster pumps. Therefore, in the process of promotion and use, it is essential to understand and master its performance and principles. Only in this way can the pump's braking performance be effectively guaranteed, its service life extended, and its safety protection function achieved. 1. Working Principle of Vacuum Booster Pumps Vacuum booster pumps are mainly composed of pump bodies, rotors, sliders, pump covers, gears, and sealing rings. When the pump is working, the eccentric rotor with four sliders rotates counterclockwise. Under the action of its own centrifugal force, the sliders slide close to the inner wall of the pump body, continuously expanding the suction chamber. The gas being pumped enters the suction chamber through the suction pipe, opening the one-way valve (the pump has a one-way valve inside, which maintains pressure in the system). When the slider rotates to a certain position, the suction is completed. At this time, the sucked-in gas is isolated, the rotor continues to rotate, and the isolated gas is gradually compressed - the pressure increases. When the working chamber rotates to communicate with the exhaust port, the gas is discharged from the exhaust port. During the pump operation process, the slider always divides the pump chamber into four working chambers. There are four suction and exhaust processes for each rotation of the rotor. 2. Precautions for use and maintenance The vacuum booster pump is a high-precision and highly sensitive pump. The following rules must be strictly followed when using it: (1) The vacuum booster pump uses machine oil to lubricate the friction surfaces and seal all gaps (the gaps formed by the rotor, slider, pump body, and pump cover). Therefore, a suitable lubricating oil and appropriate lubrication method must be selected. (2) During use, the operation and lubrication should be checked frequently to ensure they are normal and to check for any abnormal noises so that faults can be detected and eliminated in time. (3) During use, the pump should be checked frequently for any leakage. (4) If the vacuum booster pump has not been used for a long time, it should not be put into full-load operation immediately when it is reused. 3. Common Faults and Troubleshooting Methods (1) The pump draws a low maximum vacuum and the pump draws for an extended period of time; Causes of the fault: insufficient lubrication; air leakage in the air extraction pipeline; wear of parts; increased gaps leading to air leakage. Troubleshooting methods: Check the viscosity of the lubricating oil. If it is not up to standard, replace it with oil of appropriate viscosity; check each pipeline for air leakage. If it is leaking, replace the leaking parts; check the parts for wear. If they are worn, they need to be repaired or replaced with new parts; check the lubricating oil pressure and ensure it meets the specified requirements. (2) The pump does not maintain pressure and leaks air; Causes of the fault: air leakage from the sealing ring. Troubleshooting methods: Check the sealing ring for wear and elasticity. If it is worn, replace it with a new sealing ring. (3) Air leakage at each interface; Causes of the fault: loose joints or damaged seals. Troubleshooting methods: Check the joints for looseness. If they are loose, apply sealant and tighten the joints; if the seals are damaged, replace them with new parts. 4. Precautions for disassembling and assembling the pump The parts inside the vacuum booster pump have high machining and assembly precision. Under normal circumstances, users should not disassemble them. If there are any problems, they should be sent to the manufacturer or repair center for inspection and repair. If disassembly is necessary, the following precautions should be taken: (1) The rotor and gear of the vacuum booster pump are interference fit and cannot be disassembled. (2) No parts should be bumped or scratched. Clean each part with kerosene and store it in a clean box. (3) When installing the slider, pay attention to the arc surface of the slider facing outward and do not install it backward. (4) The parts must be cleaned during assembly. (5) After the pump is assembled, the rotor should rotate flexibly. 5. Storage The vacuum booster pump should be stored in a dry warehouse free of corrosive gases. Do not store it for a long time in high temperature or low temperature environments below -20℃ to avoid aging of rubber seals. Check the corrosion protection frequently and replace the anti-corrosion oil in the pump if necessary.
