The role of intelligent control in electric drive systems

Abstract : In power electronics and electric drive applications, the control system is always a core issue because it directly affects the performance of the entire system. With the development of intelligent control theory and electric drive technology, intelligent control is increasingly used in electric drive systems. This paper elucidates the characteristics of intelligent control, analyzes its application in electric drive control systems, and provides application examples of intelligent control in electric drive control systems. Keywords : Electric drive; Intelligent control; Fuzzy control; Neural network 1 Introduction Electric drive system is a general term for mechanical systems that use electric motors as prime movers, aiming to achieve rational control of the motors. Since the 1960s, with the development of power electronics technology, power electronic converters have replaced motor conversion units. Especially since the 1980s, the development of variable frequency AC speed regulation has brought electric drive to a new level and integrated it into the field of power electronics. Today, electric drive is a new discipline integrating new technologies from control, power electronics, microelectronics, information, materials, and mechanics. For the design of electric drive systems, the key part is the design of the controller. Traditional controller design is based on precise mathematical models of the object. Some require numerous sensors and observers, resulting in complex structures, while others cannot escape the influence of nonlinearity and motor parameter variations. Therefore, further research is needed to explore methods and approaches to solve these problems. In recent years, research on intelligent control has been very active and has been applied in many fields. Because intelligent control does not require precise mathematical models of the object and can achieve tractability and robustness in handling problems with inaccuracies and uncertainties, many scholars have conducted research on introducing intelligent control methods into electric drive control and have achieved many results. This paper reviews the concept of intelligent control, describes the current status of intelligent control applications in electric drive systems, and proposes future prospects.
