To improve the performance of small PLCs, manufacturers are integrating the functions of large and medium-sized PLCs into them, continuously launching new products. 1. Improved Basic Performance The third generation of the Siemens S7-200 series boasts a 40% increase in processing speed, a 50% increase in program storage area, and a 60% increase in data storage area. The S7-200's functions in motion control, process control, position control, data monitoring and acquisition, and communication have been comprehensively enhanced. New data logging instructions are used to read and permanently save equipment or process information, and new recipe instructions enable recipe functionality, with data records and recipes persistently stored on memory cards. New string variables and indirect addressing functions support more storage types. The S7-200 also provides event logs containing timestamps and event flags, stored in a buffer according to the "last-in, first-out" principle. The new CPU 224XP has two RS-485 communication ports, built-in analog I/O, and functions such as PID parameter self-tuning, position control, data logging, and recipe processing. Mitsubishi Electric's FX3U and FX3UC series belong to the third generation of micro PLCs, with significantly improved basic functions. The CPU processing speed reaches 0.065 µs/basic instruction, and it has built-in 64K steps of RAM memory, expandable to 384 points via CC-Link network. They provide 209 application instructions, including instructions for communicating with Mitsubishi inverters, CRC calculation instructions, and random number generation instructions, and also significantly increase the number of internal soft components.
