Abstract: This paper introduces the application of virtual instrument technology in a fuze software safety testing system. Considering the characteristics of fuze software safety testing, a system was developed using a PCI-6040E data acquisition card and the LabVIEW virtual instrument development system, simplifying and improving the design and implementation of complex testing systems.

1 Introduction

Fuze software refers to the program embedded in the fuze system that controls the fuze hardware. Its function is to control the fuze safety and ignition systems, preventing accidental activation and outputting detonation signals at the appropriate time. Because safety issues with fuze software can lead to serious personal injury and property damage, the safety requirements for fuze software are extremely high. To ensure that the fuze software meets safety requirements, it needs to undergo safety testing. Since manual testing is not only inefficient but also requires significant manpower and resources, this paper develops a fuze software safety testing system based on virtual instrument technology.

2. System Characteristics Analysis

2.1 Embedded Software Testing System

Fuze software is software embedded in the microprocessor unit within the fuze; therefore, its testing system belongs to the category of embedded software testing systems. Since embedded software is directly or indirectly connected to hardware devices, its testing cannot be performed directly on the host machine. To test it, the system must have the following functions: physically connect the embedded software under test and the testing system, provide logical descriptions, automatically generate test cases, simulate inputs, drive the target system under test, and obtain the results.

2.2 The testing focus is on security testing.

Security testing is a relatively new field compared to the increasingly mature reliability testing. Reliability focuses on the system's ability to function when it is supposed to, while security requires the system to prevent it from functioning when it shouldn't. Therefore, the two differ in both their testing objectives and test case design. Security testing, in particular, focuses on the software's response to abnormal test cases and its output under special circumstances. Furthermore, due to the extremely high security requirements for fuse software, the system should have automatic repeat testing capabilities.
