0 Introduction

In electrical control systems, to facilitate monitoring of transmission operation status, the effectiveness of parameter settings, and the speed of response, as well as the display of fault information and the viewing and analysis of operating curves, relevant system diagnostic tools are generally used for process control analysis. DriveWizard Plus is a diagnostic tool that can be easily applied to transmission systems. Its key feature is that it can be used simultaneously with multiple main/auxiliary transmission control systems, enabling control of various functions such as parameter setting, program backup, digital signals, graphical curves, actual status of transmission equipment, fault information alarm functions, and remote connection.

1. Components and Functions of DriveWizard Plus

DriveWizard Plus is a diagnostic tool developed by Yaskawa Electric for drive systems in modern heavy industry. It is mainly used for debugging and maintaining systems, and communicates using RS-232 or Ethernet protocols. It can run on various operating systems such as Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7.

1.1 Hardware Components

In addition to a high-configuration computer, if you are connecting a single H1000 series Yaskawa inverter, you only need a USB cable; if you are connecting multiple inverters, you need to configure a host computer controller (MP2000 series) and a MECHATROLINK-II communication cable.

1.2 DriveWizard Plus Main Functions

The DriveWizard Plus diagnostic tool primarily enables users to edit parameters using helpful information, display driver operating status (I/O signals, internal status information, etc.) and related product information, troubleshoot fault characteristics including possible causes of faults and other help options, test runs of drivers and applications (manual and modular operation), automatic adjustment features for optimizing parameter settings, and oscilloscope functionality.

1.3 DriveWizard Plus communication connection

For a single Yaskawa H1000 series inverter, only a USB cable is needed. However, pay attention to the installation path when installing the driver; otherwise, the driver will not function correctly. The correct installation path is: D:\Program Files\Driver\USB\x86 (DriveWizardPlus Ver3.07 is located on drive D).

If there are multiple Yaskawa H1000 series frequency converters, there are two communication connection methods: one is Ethernet connection; the other is communication connection with the host computer controller MP2100/MP2100M.

2. DriveWizardPlus Application Example Analysis

We further analyze the powerful features of DriveWizard Plus through example applications. Online diagnostics can significantly improve maintenance efficiency.

2.1 Online H1000 Series Frequency Inverter Product Information Retrieval

Due to the compact design of the control cabinet, the product information of the frequency converter after installation is on the side and may not be visible. DriveWizard Plus can easily read it online.

2.2 Online Editing and Setting of Internal Parameters for H1000 Series Frequency Inverters

When editing the parameters of an online frequency converter, the converter must be in a ready state, as some parameters cannot be modified during operation. All frequency converter parameters include: A1 and A2 environment setting parameters, B application parameters, C tuning parameters, D command parameters, E motor parameters, F related optional card parameters, H terminal function selection parameters, L protection function parameters, N special adjustment parameters, O operator-related parameters, QDriveWorksEZ parameters, and RdriveWorksEZ connection parameters.

In fact, most of these parameters are left at their default values. We only modify a few parameters based on the motor and inverter type. These modified parameters are also the most important. They are placed in a separate column, as shown in Figure 2 under "Modified Parameters." Their settings differ from the default values, so they are displayed in light blue for distinction. If we are editing a parameter, its background color is green; if the parameter we are editing exceeds the minimum and maximum value ranges, its background color is red as a reminder. Of course, we can also edit the parameters directly.

2.3 Comprehensive Online Monitoring of H1000 Series Frequency Inverters

It can not only monitor all parameters online, but also monitor important parameters set by the user. It can monitor not only input and output, but also status.

The left column of Figure 3 shows the monitoring screen for all parameters during inverter operation. There are many parameters, making it difficult to analyze the changes in important parameters. The right column shows the monitoring screen for important parameters according to the user's specific requirements; the parameters are concentrated and easier to observe.

Figure 4 shows the monitoring screen of the input and output signals of the running frequency converter in the left column, and the monitoring screen of the running frequency converter status in the right column. This information feedback is very important for fault analysis and provides a reliable basis for making a diagnostic conclusion.

Figure 5 shows the monitoring of dynamic parameters displayed digitally on an instrument, making the changes more intuitive. This saves a lot of trouble. We don't need to use clamp meters to measure them. Even data that is otherwise difficult to measure can be read directly, allowing for faster analysis of fault sources.

2.4 Online Commissioning and Operation of H1000 Series Frequency Inverters

After installing the frequency converter, commissioning is a crucial step. Automatic motor tuning is particularly important. Automatic tuning involves matching the parameters of the motor and the frequency converter to their optimal levels, ensuring more stable and reliable motor operation under the frequency converter's control. This tuning can be done manually directly from the DriveWizardPlus main screen on your PC, without needing a control panel.

We can also manually set a frequency for forward and reverse jogging. We can also set a mode and time increment to complete a curve-based adjustment.

In addition, DriveWizard Plus has a fault diagnosis function. It can monitor the operating status of the inverter in real time, and in case of a fault, it will issue an alarm promptly. It can also query fault history, providing a reliable basis for analyzing the cause of the fault. The following figure shows the fault diagnosis under normal operating conditions.

3. Conclusion

Leveraging the powerful features of DriveWizard Plus, it provides strong technical support for commissioning and maintenance personnel during the commissioning of the drive control system, accelerating the commissioning process, optimizing system parameters, ensuring commissioning quality, and improving system stability; it also greatly facilitates future daily maintenance.
