Essential hardware and software functions for a high-end insertion and extraction force testing machine with a load curve analyzer

2011 has come to a close. According to market research and feedback from distributors and direct customers, the market share of insertion/extraction force testing machines and load curve analyzers has been largely maintained. However, it has been impacted by the low prices of some low-end insertion/extraction force testing machines and load curve analyzers. Subsequent follow-up with customers and their feedback on the use of some low-end insertion/extraction force and load curve analyzers revealed unsatisfactory results. In short, they regretted not focusing solely on price when making their purchases, emphasizing the importance of cost-effectiveness. The following points can provide customers with some reference when purchasing insertion/extraction force and load curve analyzers:

  1. Firstly, from a hardware perspective, the connection cable between the computer and the testing machine must be a multi-pin cable, not a simple RS232 or USB interface. This is because it allows you to assess the quality and functionality of the hardware acquisition card and control card, as well as the sampling rate. International brands like MAX and Taiwanese brands use multi-pin data cables.
  2. The external panel has a stroke resolution setting of 0.01mm. While gently pressing the screen to show a 0.01mm change on the computer display, carefully observe whether the testing machine is actually moving (many suppliers have fake functions; the testing machine is not actually moving).
  3. Entering the test program requires exiting the load protection force. Movement is only permitted after confirming the protection force to prevent accidental damage to the sensor. The verification method involves using the panel buttons to press down on the sensor's test head, striking the base plate. Multiple strikes should not damage the sensor. (The milligram brand load curve analyzer sensor is under warranty.)
  4. The testing speed needs to be verified. Generally, the insertion/extraction force testing speed is 200 mm/min. Some suppliers claim the speed can be set to 200 mm/min, but in actual verification, it's only 150 mm/min. The verification method is: set the test stroke to 100 mm and the speed to 200 mm/min. When starting the test, the stopwatch should return in about 30 seconds. If the speed is insufficient, it will take more than 30 seconds before the return begins.
  5. A high-end insertion/extraction force-load curve analyzer should have extended functionality to include dynamic impedance testing, rather than simply being an externally connected ohmmeter. It should have an internal impedance board and software with impedance testing capabilities to measure the dynamic impedance change curve of connectors, as well as the on/off points and contact resistance of push-button switches.
  6. When performing life tests on low-end insertion and extraction forces, the travel may drift. Verification involves performing 10,000 consecutive dry runs with a fixed reference object placed on the moving crossbeam. After the life test is complete, check if the crossbeam returns to its original position.
  7. The feel of a low-end curve analyzer is often less than that of a well-known brand. This is because the feel value depends on the peak value of the button switch. With fewer samples, the peak value may not be captured, resulting in a higher peak value captured by the low-end curve analyzer compared to a high-end one. (This was discovered by a customer who compared test data from a low-end curve analyzer with their client's data. The customer eventually had to discontinue using that machine and purchase ours instead, as the test data was fundamentally inconsistent with their client's, leading to frequent customer complaints.)

Therefore, based on the points above, customers should not simply look at the price quote when purchasing high-priced testing machines. Simply offering the lowest price often leads to significant problems for the user department later on. The correct approach is for multiple departments to collaborate and ensure the accuracy of the testing data and after-sales service before making a purchase at this price level. Compare prices from multiple suppliers, but also compare quality.
