Recently, Control Engineering Network conducted a survey on the application of servo motors. The questionnaire mainly covered servo motor brands, criteria for selecting servo systems, and recent procurement plans. This survey was conducted entirely online, and by July 10th, 62 valid questionnaires were received. Participants came from industries including machine tools, packaging machinery, printing machinery, textile machinery, metallurgy, electronics, and power. Due to the small scope and limited sample size of this survey, the following analysis results are for reference only.
The survey results show that among the servo motor brands currently used by users, the top ten are SIEMENS, PANASONICS, MITSUBISHIELECTRIC, FUJIELECTRIC, OMRON, YASKAWA, Baldor, DELTA, SANYODENKI, and Boschrexroth, with their respective percentages shown in Figure 1. Other brands include B&R, DanaherMotion, FANUC, HOLLYSYS-ELECTRIC, LENZE, LUST, and Parker Hannfin.
Price is the most important factor for users when choosing a servo motor system, accounting for 74%. The second and third most important factors are installation method and protection level, accounting for 32% and 24% respectively. Other factors include standard size (21%), EMI/RFI protection (19%), standard housing (13%), and integrated brake (6%). (See Figure 2.)
The survey also revealed that the key performance characteristics of servo systems most valued by users are setup and adjustment software, torque-to-inertia ratio, and high torque at low speeds, accounting for 45%, 44%, and 40% respectively. Other key performance indicators include wide speed range (34%), high power density (31%), high output torque (23%), low torque jitter (16%), internal permanent magnet rotor design (6%), and multi-rotor inertia (3%). Of the 62 respondents, 42% indicated they planned to purchase servo system products within the next six months. 79% of those purchasing servo products would consider buying a complete servo system, including motion controllers, drives, and servo motors. 21% planned to purchase individual components such as motors and drives separately.
