Redundancy voltage of aluminum electrolytic capacitor

When a voltage is applied to a dielectric material, electrons are transferred within the material, inducing an electric field that is opposite in direction to the voltage. This phenomenon is called polarization. After the applied voltage causes polarization, if the two terminals are discharged until the voltage between them is zero, and then left open for a period of time, a potential will appear on the terminals, resulting in a regenerative voltage. The regenerative voltage peaks after the capacitor has been left open for 10-20 days and then gradually decreases. The regenerative voltage tends to increase with the size of the component (self-supporting substrate). If the capacitor short-circuits after generating the regenerative voltage, the instantaneous high-voltage discharge may cause fear among assembly line workers and could potentially damage low-voltage drive components (such as CPUs and memory). Preventive measures include adding a 100Ω-1KΩ resistor for discharge before use, or covering the product packaging with aluminum foil to induce a short circuit between the two terminals.
