With the progress of the times and the vigorous development of China's economy, banks are constantly building and expanding their data centers to adapt to the increasing volume of financial transaction data, improve their overall data throughput capacity, enhance their competitiveness, and better serve China's financial industry.
Financial data communication demands high real-time performance and high security, thus requiring a professional data center as a support. To ensure the normal and efficient operation of the data center, the need for data center monitoring is also increasing.
A large state-owned bank's data center is located in Pudong, Shanghai. The center uses high-end mainframe computers to process financial transaction data, thus requiring strict control over environmental temperature, humidity, air cleanliness, and power supply voltage. This necessitates a stable and reliable data center monitoring system, and Beckhoff products were chosen as the main controller for this system. The client has four data centers of varying sizes, each using a Beckhoff CX5000 series controller. Given the large area of the data centers and the dispersed layout of the equipment, Beckhoff's distributed I/O connects the monitoring points of each hardware device, transmitting the collected data to the CX5000 embedded PC via an EtherCAT bus for processing.
Beckhoff's modules are small and compact, and the customer placed them in a self-designed small mounting box, burying it under the floor, making them very well "hidden". Since the data flow takes place underground, it does not occupy any rack space on the ground, which the customer highly appreciates.
In this project, in addition to using ordinary digital and analog input modules, over 300 Beckhoff EL3403 modules were used to acquire power data. Compared to ordinary analog signal input modules, the EL3404 can not only acquire AC voltage and current, but also automatically calculate energy and power factor, making it more convenient to use. Its compatibility with the IEC61131-3 programming language standard also simplifies the writing of programs for handling complex calculations.
The CX5000 is equipped with an Ethernet interface, enabling easy uploading of collected data. This allows staff in the data center control room to view monitoring data from each server room for analysis and processing. Furthermore, maintenance personnel working in the server rooms can conveniently view current and historical monitoring data for each server room using the CX5000's visualization feature.
Currently, the data center monitoring system has been running smoothly for six months, and the overall performance and maintenance costs have satisfied the client. This also proves that Beckhoff's system is fully capable of ensuring a high-efficiency and stable operating environment for large computers.
