Renesas has long held an important position in automotive electronics applications. The MCU R5F1177A belongs to the Renesas RL78 series of microcontrollers. This MCU features extremely low power consumption, rich analog functions, and excellent low power performance, making it a perfect fit for power-sensitive automotive electronics applications, especially detection and sensor applications.

Complete simulation functions

The R5F1177A, distributed by Worldway, integrates a wealth of analog functions, including operational amplifiers, mode converters, and window comparators.

Meanwhile, this MCU integrates 4 operational amplifiers and 2 window comparators. With a simple external resistor and capacitor design, it can amplify, filter, and monitor signals. Combined with the internally integrated 12-bit analog-to-digital converter, the R5F1177A can complete the measurement and detection of external signals in a very small design area, which improves the design flexibility of developers. Especially in automotive electronics applications, it greatly reduces the difficulty of miniaturization design.

First-class low-power mode

The R5F1177A boasts exceptional low-power performance. To achieve its ultra-low power goal, the R5F1177A employs a wide supply voltage range of 1.6V to 3.6V , and also provides multiple on-chip system clocks ranging from 1MHz to 24MHz, allowing users to flexibly select the appropriate clock frequency based on their application's speed and power consumption requirements. The R5F1177A offers four modes: Operating, Halt, Stop, and Snooze. Even in Operating mode at 1MHz, its power consumption reaches 124uA, significantly lower than comparable products operating at that frequency. When the operating frequency is further reduced to 15kHz, its power consumption does not exceed 10uA. Furthermore, the R5F1177A features extremely fast wake-up speed, with a minimum wake-up time of only 4µs. When speed requirements are less stringent, the chip can be controlled to enter low-power modes (Halt, Stop, Snooze) to further reduce power consumption.

Abundant film resources

The R5F1177A boasts abundant on-chip resources. This MCU employs a 16-bit CISC architecture CPU core with a 3-stage pipeline, a maximum system clock frequency of 24MHz, 16KB of code storage Flash, 2KB of data storage Flash, and 2KB of internal RAM, eliminating the need for additional memory and meeting the needs of most designs. The R5F1177A features 24 pins in an HWQFN package, its ultra-small size making it well-suited for area-sensitive applications. The R5F1177A also provides 18 I/O ports, including 15 CMOS I/O ports and 3 CMOS input pins. Furthermore, the R5F1177A integrates multiple serial communication interfaces, including two CSI interfaces, one UART interface, and two I2C interfaces.

According to Hu Yueqiang, Marketing Manager of Worldway, the R5F1177A features several optimized designs for automotive electronics applications. To meet temperature requirements, the R5F1177A extends its operating temperature range to -40°C to +105°C. This chip integrates an on-chip voltage monitor, which can monitor the system's operating voltage in real time, providing up to 12 levels of quantification. When the system power supply is abnormal, it can promptly report to the user, preventing accidents. This function is particularly important for battery applications, as it can alert users in advance when the battery is low, facilitating troubleshooting. To prevent abnormal program execution during MCU operation, the R5F1177A also integrates a watchdog timer. Users can configure the watchdog timer as needed, and it will reset promptly when program execution malfunctions, avoiding major accidents. The main applications of the R5F1177A also include fire protection systems (including smoke, combustible gas, and carbon monoxide detection), security and access control systems (including motion detection and glass breakage detection), and industrial sensor and circuit breaker applications.
