With the development of LTE, Pico-cells are becoming increasingly widely used. A Pico-Cell is a small base station that can simultaneously support 200 users within a range of 100 to 200 meters. In large buildings, shopping malls, and densely populated hotspots, Pico-Cells can increase LTE network capacity, improve network service quality and stability, and ensure a better user experience. Compared to macro base stations, Pico-Cells are smaller (about one-third the size of current RRUs) and consume less power. Compared to Femto-Cells (femtocell base stations supporting a 10-meter coverage range and 20 users), Pico-Cells can support more users and wider coverage.
In the AVAGO product line distributed by Worldway, the MGA-31689 power amplifier is suitable for Pico products. Its 1dB compression point is 27.6dBm , and the PAR for LTE is 8.5dB . Therefore, the MGA-31689 meets the high linearity requirement of LTE at an output power of 19dBm, which means it meets the data throughput requirements of LTE.
Secondly, the MGA-31689 has a gain of 18dB. During simulation, to balance various performance aspects, its gain is 16dB. Generally, the output power of a transceiver is -30dBm to 10dBm , so a gain of 16dB is sufficient to meet the power output requirements of the system.

From the simulation performance, in the 1.5G ~3Ghz frequency band, the gain decreases as the frequency increases. This can be balanced by implementing digital ATT or baseband attenuation in PICO products. In addition, in the original Smith chart , S22 has a better standing wave ratio and better convergence than S11. Its position is closer to the origin, which helps to optimize the output power and linear performance of the power amplifier itself.

Based on the simulation schematic, the peripheral matching values differ from those in the datasheet. These values can be adjusted according to the actual circuit performance or specific requirements of the board material.
