Interconnection methods of PCB circuit boards

The two PCBs are connected by ribbon cables, which is reliable and less prone to connection errors, and the relative positions of the two PCBs are not restricted.

Direct soldering between printed circuit boards (PCBs) is a common method used for connecting two PCBs at a 90-degree angle. The resulting assembly forms a single, integrated PCB component.

PCB interconnection method two: connector connection method

In complex instruments and equipment, plug-in connection methods are often used. This "modular" structure not only ensures the quality of mass production and reduces system costs, but also facilitates debugging and maintenance. When equipment malfunctions, maintenance personnel do not need to inspect at the component level (i.e., check the cause of the malfunction and trace it back to the specific component, which takes a considerable amount of time). They only need to determine which board is faulty and can immediately replace it, eliminating the fault in the shortest possible time, reducing downtime, and improving equipment utilization. The replaced circuit board can be repaired within sufficient time and used as a spare part after repair.

1. Printed Circuit Board Socket

This connection method is frequently used in more complex instruments and equipment. This method involves creating a printed plug from the edge of the PCB (Printed Circuit Board). The plug is designed to match the socket's dimensions, number of contacts, contact distance, and the position of the positioning holes.

During PCB manufacturing, the connector portion requires gold plating to improve wear resistance and reduce contact resistance. This method offers simple assembly, good interchangeability and maintainability, and is suitable for standardized mass production. Its disadvantages include increased PCB cost, higher requirements for PCB manufacturing precision and processes, and slightly lower reliability, often resulting in poor contact due to oxidation of the connector portion or aging of the socket springs. To improve the reliability of external connections, the same lead wire is often connected in parallel through contacts on the same or both sides of the PCB.

PCB (Printed Circuit Board) socket connection methods are commonly used in products with multi-board structures. There are two types of sockets that connect to the printed circuit board or base plate: spring-loaded and pin-loaded.

2. Standardize pin connections

This method can be used for external connections of printed circuit boards (PCBs), especially in small instruments where pin connections are commonly used. By connecting two PCBs using standardized pins, the two PCBs are typically parallel or perpendicular, making mass production easy.
