What are the reasons for tap breakage in servo automatic tapping machines?

A servo automatic tapping machine is a machine tool used to machine internal threads with taps. It is one of the most widely used internal thread machining machines. Since its market launch, the servo automatic tapping machine has been favored by users for its portability, flexibility, high efficiency, and advantages that other similar equipment cannot replace. It avoids the limitations of lathes, drilling machines, or manual tapping, and saves time and effort, reduces the risk of thread damage, and prevents tap breakage. Its significant features have earned widespread praise and adoption from users. This machine is suitable for all mechanical manufacturing industries. Currently, its customers in mainland China cover machine tool, mold (factory) machinery, plastic machinery, printing machinery, packaging machinery manufacturers, construction machinery, automotive and motorcycle parts, aero-engines, locomotives and rolling stock, tobacco machinery, and general machinery industries.

Breakage is a very common failure in servo automatic tapping machines, and some of the more common causes are as follows:

1. If the feed speed of the servo automatic tapping machine is too fast, the torque will be too high. Therefore, manufacturers generally recommend that when using ordinary taps to process threads, the speed should not exceed 100 revolutions per minute.

2. The size of the pilot hole on the servo-controlled automatic tapping machine does not match the tap. This greatly increases the cutting portion of the tap during tapping, making the tap more prone to breakage.

3. Operator error. For example, when machining blind hole threads, the operator may not realize that the tap is about to contact the bottom of the hole, causing the tap to break. This requires workers to strengthen their sense of responsibility.

4. The servo-controlled automatic tapping machine uses inappropriate cutting fluid or no cutting fluid at all. This generates a large amount of heat during the tapping process, leading to tap breakage.

5. Insufficient concentricity of the servo automatic tapping machine. This results in inaccurate tap positioning at startup, excessive torque during the tapping process, and tap breakage.
