Classification and Characteristics Analysis of Gear Reducer Stepper Motors

A geared motor is an independent, closed transmission device located between the prime mover and the driven machine. It is used to reduce speed and correspondingly increase torque. Geared motors are mainly divided into two categories: geared motors and worm geared motors. Geared motors are further divided into cylindrical geared motors, bevel geared motors, and bevel-cylindrical geared motors.

Gear reducers are characterized by high efficiency and reliability, long service life, easy maintenance, and wide application. Gear reducers can be classified into single-stage, two-stage, and three-stage types, and their installation arrangements mainly include open-type, coaxial type, and split-type.

In a two-stage cylindrical gear reducer stepper motor, the gears are asymmetrical relative to the support position. When the shaft undergoes bending or torsional deformation, the load is unevenly distributed across the tooth width. Therefore, the shaft should be designed to have greater rigidity, and the gears should be kept away from the input or output end.

The characteristics of the split-type two-stage cylindrical gear reducer motor: The extended shaft of the split-type reducer motor can extend from either side, which facilitates the overall configuration of the machine. The gears of the split stage are all made into helical teeth, with one side turning right and the other side turning left to counteract the axial force. One of the shafts should be able to make a slight axial movement to avoid jamming the gear.

The characteristics of coaxial geared motors are: compact radial dimensions but large axial dimensions. Due to the large intermediate shaft, the shaft experiences significant deflection under load, resulting in severe load concentration along the tooth width. Furthermore, because the centers of the two gear stages must be aligned, the load-bearing capacity of the higher gear stage is difficult to fully utilize, and lubrication of the bearings located in the middle of the reduction gear is also challenging. The input and output ends of the geared stepper motor are located at opposite ends of the same axis, which limits the overall configuration of the transmission device.
