Installation, Use and Maintenance of R-Series Gear Reducers

I. Precautions for the installation and use of R-series gear reducers

1. When installing R-series reducers, it is important to ensure the alignment of the transmission center axis. The error should not exceed the compensation amount of the coupling used. Proper alignment can extend the service life and achieve ideal transmission efficiency.

2. When installing transmission components on the output shaft, do not use a hammer to strike them. Instead, use assembly fixtures and the internal threads on the shaft end to press the transmission components in with bolts. Otherwise, damage to internal parts of the reducer may occur. It is best to avoid using rigid fixed couplings, as improper installation of such couplings can cause unnecessary external loads, leading to premature bearing damage and, in severe cases, even output shaft breakage.

3. The reducer should be securely installed on a stable, level foundation or base. Oil in the drain pan should be able to drain completely, and cooling air should circulate smoothly. An unreliable foundation will cause vibration and noise during operation, and may damage bearings and gears. When the transmission connection has protrusions or uses gears or sprockets, protective devices should be considered. When the output shaft bears a large radial load, a reinforced type should be selected.

4. Ensure that the specified installation device allows easy access for personnel to the oil level indicator, vent plug, and drain plug. After installation, thoroughly check the accuracy of the installation position and the reliability of all fasteners in sequence. The reducer should rotate freely after installation. The reducer uses oil bath splash lubrication. Before operation, the user needs to remove the vent plug and replace it with a vent plug. Depending on the installation position, check the oil level by opening the oil level plug screw. Add oil until lubricating oil overflows from the oil level plug screw hole. After confirming that the oil level plug is correct, a no-load test run can be performed for no less than 2 hours. The operation should be smooth, without impact, vibration, noise, or oil leakage. Any abnormalities should be rectified promptly.

The oil level should be checked again after a certain period of time to prevent possible leaks from the casing. If the ambient temperature is too high or too low, the grade of lubricating oil can be changed.

II. Inspection and Maintenance of R-Series Helical Gear Reducers

Newly commissioned gearboxes are filled with extreme pressure industrial gear oil of L-CKC100~L-CKC220 in GB/T5903 at the factory. The first oil change should be performed after 200~300 hours of operation. In subsequent use, the quality of the oil should be checked regularly, and any oil mixed with impurities or deteriorated should be replaced in time.

Generally, for speed reducers that operate continuously for extended periods, the oil should be changed every 5,000 hours of operation or once a year. For speed reducers that have been out of use for a long time, the oil should also be changed before restarting. The speed reducer should be filled with the same brand of oil as before and should not be mixed with oils of different brands. Oils of the same brand but different viscosities are allowed to be mixed.

When changing the oil, wait until the gearbox has cooled down to a point where there is no risk of combustion, but it should still be kept warm. This is because once completely cooled, the oil viscosity increases, making draining difficult. Caution: Disconnect the power supply to the transmission device to prevent accidental energization!

During operation, if the oil temperature rises above 80℃ or the oil sump temperature exceeds 100℃, or if abnormal noise is generated, the operation should be stopped, the cause should be checked, the fault must be eliminated, and the lubricating oil should be replaced before the operation can continue.

Users should have reasonable rules and regulations for use and maintenance, and should keep careful records of the operation of the speed reducer and the problems found during inspection. The above regulations should be strictly followed.
