How should the voltage and current of a stepper motor driver be determined? How should a stepper motor driver be matched? Engineers from Mingzhi, a professional seller of stepper motor drivers, suggest two methods to determine the matching of stepper motor drivers based on voltage and current.
1. Determining the voltage of the stepper motor driver
The power supply voltage of a hybrid stepper motor driver is generally a wide range (for example, the power supply voltage of IM483 is 12~48VDC). The power supply voltage is usually selected according to the operating speed and response requirements of the motor.
If the motor operates at a high speed or requires a fast response, then the voltage value should also be high. However, be careful that the power supply voltage ripple does not exceed the driver's maximum input voltage, otherwise the driver may be damaged.
2. Determining the current of the stepper motor driver
The power supply current is generally determined based on the output phase current I of the driver. If a linear power supply is used, the power supply current can generally be 1.1 to 1.3 times I; if a switching power supply is used, the power supply current can generally be 1.5 to 2.0 times I.
Stepper motor driver selection: Choose a driver with a current greater than or equal to the motor's current. For low vibration or high precision, a microstepping driver can be used. For high-torque motors, use a high-voltage driver whenever possible to achieve good high-speed performance.
