A voice coil motor ( VCO ) is a special type of direct-drive motor that directly converts electrical energy into linear mechanical energy without any intermediate conversion mechanism. Its principle is as follows : a cylindrical winding is placed in a uniform air-gap magnetic field. When the winding is energized, it generates electromagnetic force, driving the load in a linear reciprocating motion. Changing the strength and polarity of the current alters the magnitude and direction of the electromagnetic force. Therefore, the motion of a VCO can be linear or rotary. It boasts advantages such as high response, high speed, high acceleration, simple structure, small size, good force characteristics, and convenient control. In recent years, with the rapid development of VCO technology, it has been widely used in precision positioning systems and many different types of high-acceleration, high-frequency excitation, fast, and high-precision positioning motion systems. Compared to coreless and iron-core linear motors, it offers better high-frequency response characteristics, enabling high-speed reciprocating linear motion, making it particularly suitable for short-stroke closed-loop servo control systems. VCO control is simple and reliable, requires no commutation device, and has a long lifespan.
