Different lubricating oils must not be mixed. The positions of the oil level plug, drain plug, and breather are determined by the installation location. Their relative positions can be determined by referring to the gearbox installation diagram. The following discussion mainly focuses on oil changes, oil level checks, and, for gearboxes with oil level plugs, oil checks, and other related aspects.
1. For reducers equipped with oil level screw plugs
Check the oil level to see if it is within acceptable limits; install the oil level plug.
II. Oil Change
After cooling, the oil viscosity increases, making draining difficult. The gearbox oil should be changed while it is still in operating temperature. Disconnect the power supply to prevent electric shock! Wait for the gearbox to cool down completely and until there is no risk of combustion!
III. Precautions
Add new oil of the same brand; the oil level should match the installation position; check the oil level at the oil level plug; tighten the oil level plug and breather; the reducer should still be warm when changing the oil; place an oil collection tray under the drain plug; open the oil level plug, breather and drain plug; drain all the oil; install the drain plug.
IV. Oil Level Check
Disconnect the power supply to prevent electric shock! Wait for the reducer to cool down; remove the oil level plug to check if the oil is full; reinstall the oil level plug.
V. Oil Inspection
Disconnect the power supply to prevent electric shock! Wait for the reducer to cool down; open the drain plug and take an oil sample; check the oil viscosity index; if the oil is obviously cloudy, it is recommended to replace it as soon as possible.
