The difference between industrial cameras and ordinary cameras used in machine vision

Machine vision systems utilize machines to perform various measurements and judgments, replacing human eyes. The purpose of a machine vision camera is to transmit images projected onto a sensor through a lens to a machine device capable of storing, analyzing, and/or displaying them.

As the "eyes" of a machine, the camera plays a very important role. According to different standards, they can be divided into standard resolution digital cameras and analog cameras, etc.

Choose different cameras based on different practical applications, including high-resolution cameras, line scan CCDs and area scan CCDs; monochrome cameras and color cameras.

So what are the differences between industrial cameras and ordinary cameras we use in our daily lives?

1. Industrial cameras have very short shutter speeds, which can capture fast-moving objects. The shutter speeds of industrial cameras are generally in the microsecond range. Combined with light sources, strobe controllers, and full-screen exposure, problems such as motion blur can be effectively solved.

2. Industrial cameras have a much higher shooting speed than ordinary cameras. Industrial cameras can capture ten to several hundred images per second, or even more, while ordinary cameras can only capture 2-3 images per second, a significant difference.

3. Industrial camera image sensors use progressive scan, while general video camera image sensors use interlaced scan, or even scan every three lines. Progressive scan image sensors are more difficult to manufacture, have lower yield rates, and are shipped in smaller quantities; examples include Dalsa and AVT, which are relatively expensive.

4. Industrial cameras output raw data with a wider spectral range, making them more suitable for high-quality image processing algorithms and widely used in machine vision systems. In contrast, images captured by conventional cameras (DSC) have a spectral range suitable only for human vision and are subject to MPEG compression, resulting in lower image quality. Due to these technological advantages over conventional cameras, industrial cameras are more widely used in various fields.
